To Whom it May Concern:
As a devoted and longtime cottage owner in Rondeau Provincial Park, it is with great passion that I write to you today.
My heart is heavy as we, the longstanding cottagers of Rondeau, continue to fight for our right to have a cottage within Rondeau Provincial Park. As a matter of fact and law, Rondeau Provincial Park was chartered in 1894 specifically for the purpose of cottaging. So, there have been cottages and cottagers 'legally' presiding in the park for approximately 128 years. That's a very long time! Why does the current government feel that they now have the right to 'do away' with the cottages? It makes no reasonable sense. Cottages and cottagers have been part of the permanent landscape of Rondeau Provincial Park for well over a century. Also, the Chatham/Kent community and local economy has thrived as a result of their existence, particularly in the summer months. The proposed idea of making room for more campers is completely ridiculous because the current campsite lots are often empty, even during the peak season, when the campgrounds should be full.
We appeal to your sense of justice and fairness when considering the fate of the cottages at Rondeau Provincial Park. The Provincial Parks & the CRA Regulations already confirm that we’re here until 2038. However, a solution must be found for the permanent occupancy of the cottage lots, and a sale under Section 9(3) of the Provincial Parks & Conservation Reserves Act (2006) as directed by Minister Jeff Yurek, is the best way.
Thank you.
