The greenbelt was established for a number of reasons, building over it helps no one. Ontario has a lot of space. Why not find a way to encourage settlement away from the GTA/Golden Horseshoe? Why not build in the north and find a way to incentivise population growth there? Why not encourage more diverse companies to move up there as well? Many existing communities would benefit from population growth and new employment opportunities, build there and create incentives for people and companies to move.
