At this time in history, it is unbelievable that the government would REMOVE restrictions protecting the environment. That seems like an oxymoron. Climate change is a fact-we all see it and live it every day. To ignore it is one thing, but to further advance it is irresponsible.
Ontario is losing its ability to feed itself. Paving over agricultural land or the green space which protects surrounding lands, is so worrisome for us. We can’t rely on other countries, or even other provinces, to feed us. We have seen what happens when a leader of a particular bent, takes over in a neighbouring country, or one who advocates separation in a province of Canada wins an election. We must be able to sustain life in our province-especially one so rich in natural resources as Ontario. Why is it necessary to build more homes and more shopping plazas??? The population can spread out across Canada—we should not be encouraging the population to all live in a small radius around Toronto. That is also irresponsible.
It feels like this government is so bolstered by the spring election results, that they feel they have a mandate to do anything they want. They do not have that mandate. They are mis-interpreting those results. Doug Ford and the Conservative Party won the election because there was no strong opposition, and because they had guided us through the pandemic in a heartfelt way. That was the message they should take away from the results-not a mandate to pave our green spaces and farm lands. It makes me so very sad to drive around Southern Ontario and see so much of our green space and rich farm land paved over —-for what?—-more cheaply made mass subdivision housing, and more shopping plazas. This is not our Ontario.
Shame shame Doug Ford. You are being single-minded and catering to a relatively small group of people. You have a whole province of people you are supposed to be representing…..not just land developers. Shame shame!
PLEASE ENSURE THIS IS READ BY SOMEONE WHO CAN PASS THE MESSAGE ALONG.
