The government should not backtrack on its promise to leave the greenbelt intact. These changes will set a precedent for every landowner and speculator to lobby the government to remove lands from the greenbelt for their benefit. Furthermore, the greenbelt is not a reserve of land for development. It is an essential feature for protecting natural heritage and agricultural land in Ontario. Most of the remaining prime agricultural land in Ontario is within the bounds of the GTA and the greenbelt, as are a disproportionate number of rare and at-risk species. We need these regions more than ever to have good planning, with dense land efficient development within lands already designated for development. There are lands available for development to support growth for at least several decades, we do not need to open up valuable greenbelt land. None of the parcels would support affordable housing - only expensive exurbs, luxury homes and car dependent sprawl that is wrecking out environment and bankrupting our communities.

In short, I am opposed to ALL of the proposed removals of land

I am in support of adding the Paris Galt moraine and urban river valleys to the greenbelt, but these are not an adequate replacement for the lands removed, since most of the area is already protected by other mechanisms.
