Greenbelt protects lands surrounding high density areas: GTA, Niagara, protected since 2005. This area protects our watershed to prevent flooding and erosion, cleans our air, provides farmland for our affordable, sustainable, precious food and is nourishing green space for mental health and recreation.
We discovered during the pandemic, we cannot count on the rest of the world to supply our sustainable food.

Many of the high density areas protected, including coastal municipalities, are on flood plains.

Valuable contributions of wetlands, include protection from viruses, protecting our wildlife, filtering our water. Draining these precious wetlands to build, further decimates our watershed. Climate change means high winds, flooding etc.

Allowing the Greenbelt to be developed, only allows developers to make big money on big urban sprawl, guarantees nothing for affordable housing.

Yes, we need affordable housing. We have the land in GTA etc for responsibly, sustainably done mixed housing buildings, built with low impact development, room for mature trees on perimeter and built to weather climate standards. 3 political parties on housing committee all said build using infill. If you have infill everywhere, it's fair and no one can claim exemptions.

Protect all of our Greenbelt now, and always.
