The environmental and agriculture value to the greenbelt and the prevention of sprawl was the original reason for the creation of the Greenbelt in the first place. The Ford government's complete disregard for these protections, especially after repeatedly promising not to touch the Greenbelt is as disrespectful to the people of Ontario as their ill-advised attempt to pre-emptively prevent a strike with CUPE workers by taking away their rights during bargaining. Until every, and I mean every, other land option has been utilized to convert and build on already available lands, there is no justifiable reason to take away our children's right to a healthy environment that can still feed the people of Ontario because it was paved over to build a bunch of single family homes. Utilize the existing space to grow up and grow smarter, not just sprawl out causing even more infrastructure problems, mostly how to build and maintain enough to service this ever expanding sprawl. Especially since as nice as subdivisions are for builders and first time buyers, it doesn't solve the problem of lack of rental units. If the Ford government proceeds with this 'restructure' of the Greenbelt, it will be proving yet again how little the Ford government cares about the citizens of Ontario. This action would speak louder than words to prove that the only thing this government truly cares about is money and big businesses, not the citizens who he supposedly works for. My children and future grandchildren deserve to have an environment to inherit, not just a concrete nightmare. Secondly, there is so much stink of greased palms and corruption in this whole endeavor that if it proceeds, there will be no pretending that the Ford government is for the people, unless the rest of that motto is "for the people...that give me money, that is". Is that the legacy you really want to leave behind?
