I do not support the amendments proposed in this bill. I am concerned by this government's ongoing dismantling of environmental protections in Ontario. The conventional method of eating up agricultural lands and natural habitats to expand urban sprawl has not been viable nor sustainable for decades. Creative solutions have been presented that manage existing spaces more effectively for housing developments and do not sacrifice long fought battles to protect our Greenbelt. Protecting Ontario's green spaces is our responsibility to future generations. We can't bow down to the lobbying of land speculators with only a bottom line for a vision.
Climate change is here and the expertise to manage the effects of these changes lies with the Regional Conservation Authorities not in Queen's Park. Again, dismantling of environmental protections leaves us vulnerable to the extreme weather conditions that now occur on a more regular basis. These groups are also essential in protecting our existing infrastructure from erosion, flooding and instability.
As an ordinary citizen of Ontario, I request that these amendments be rescinded and consideration be given to more thoughtful solutions to the housing crisis.
