Staff of the City of Greater Sudbury supports the letter submitted by The Association of Municipalities of Ontario (“AMO”), the City of Toronto, the Regional Public Works
Commissioners of Ontario (“RPWCO”) and the Municipal Waste Association (“MWA”). We understand the issues with the management of food and organic waste in Northern Ontario and how a one-size-fits-all approach may not work. However, we don't support Section 4.10 of the Policy Statement that limits the requirement of multi-unit residential buildings to only Southern Ontario. I suggest that a requirement be added for multi-unit residential buildings in Northern Ontario if a source separated food and organic waste collection and processing system is available. Section 4.11 and Section 4.12 would also apply.
