Mr Ford:
I am interested in protecting our environment for the next 7 generations, as my Indigenous friends say. To that end, I want to see polluters pay for making our air, water and soil dirty. I want a price put on carbon, as that is one way to encourage manufacturers and polluters to literally clean up their act.
I want strict, very low limits on companies that would drain our water to put it into plastic bottles.
I want our auto industries to take the lead by producing electric vehicles and I want our energy industries to aggressively find ways to produce electricity with renewable resources, and I would love it if this could be done in my lifetime (I’m 67). I would love to see efficient solar panels on every building, especially the big box stores, shopping malls, and schools with flat roofs. I would love to see more wind-turbines....not only the big ones that dot the landscape, but small ones like I have seen on some buildings. I know we will never be completely fossil fuel free (planes etc still need it), but there is no good reason why we can’t come up with ways to charge our cars, even lights and appliances with wind and solar power. I want every new home or building to be outfitted with geo-thermal capacity. It’s easy and cheaper to do when being constructed than to retrofit.
I want our green spaces protected. I want our farmland protected from rampant urban sprawl.
I know we have the talent and expertise to look into the future and imagine a cleaner world for our grandchildren 7 generations along. It just takes guts, commitment and imagination. I hope you have that.
