The Greenbelt was created originally to protect the high density GTA and other communities lying south of it right down to Lake Ontario and other major waterways. These communities are already rapidly expanding with new housing and still have more lands available for development.

Allowing parts of the Greenbelt to be turned over for development will increase the risk of flooding, and endanger the air quality and the water supply for these existing communities. It will also take away local agricultural land and highly used recreational spaces which are currently of benefit to them.

By allowing more development further out it means travelling greater distances for work, food and supplies, congesting our roads even further than they are already. It is inefficient to build housing in areas which are far away and do not already have the infrastructure to support them. Anyone living in them will be totally car dependent for any of their travel needs.

If you allow this to happen there will be pressure from more developers in the future to carve up even more of the protected area. Its an anti-environmental and anti-climate change action plan with the inevitable consequence of making our future living conditions worse. BUILD ON THE AVAILABLE LANDS WITHIN OUR EXISTING COMUNITIES - NOT ON THE GREENBELT. LET US PROTECT WHAT WE ALREADY HAVE.
