Government is best advised to look at underutilized areas in and around Ontario outside of the green belt. Building homes on the green belt will destroy habitats and will further lead to species loss, especially for those endangered or threatened. Humans live in an ecosystem of dynamic inter-relationships. The green belt is part of this. If the green belt is destroyed by housing development, under ground water systems and rivers will be affected, as well as farming and food production. These effects will lead to more economic and social hardships, especially affecting the poor.
