I am not opposed to opening the greenbelt to development to create more housing however this should only be done in certain areas to start to make sure that opening the greenbelt will help solve the housing crisis, some good test areas include but not limited to are St Catharines west of highway 406, Niagara-On-The-Lake (village area), Clarington along the highway 407 corridor and south of it down to Bowmanville and Courtice, Port Perry and the surrounding area in Scugog, Beaverton and the surrounding area in Brock, Georgina (mostly the Keswick and Sutton areas).
Personally, I think it would be a better solution to go after real instate investors who drive up the housing market such as making Airbnb’s illegal, prohibiting corporations from buying single detached family homes, etc. I also would like to see the province start a province run home-building company where only first time home buyers and those who do not own a home are permitted to purchase a home from this company.
