The idea that ripping out…

The idea that ripping out natural areas, of which we have so little left, to build homes is completely out of touch with reality. My main concerns are:
1) this will not build homes faster. Greenfields need servicing: water, sewers, roads, electricity. It takes years to plan and build new services.
2) this will not build cost-efficient homes. I'm sure others will provide with study after study about the cost of sprawl, city making math. All of us, as taxpayers, will bear the cost for generations to come. Adding density to existing cities is the cost-efficient way.
3) this will not build sustainable homes. The downstream effects of hardening the land will increasing flooding risk to all areas downstream. Many of the proposed areas are at risk of flooding already. Who will bear the cost of flooded basements? We will, the taxpayers. Not to mention, the transportation network to serve these areas will force everyone to drive, without transit options in low density far flung places.

We need to drip this idea and focus on building more CITY homes faster.
