I do not support eliminating green belt lands for the purpose of development. I find it very disheartening that the conservative government would allow this and give this to the development community. The lands to be exchanged are not an equitable trade by any stretch. It would seem that this is driven by development community from a profit perspective. To also reduce and or eliminate fees for infrastructure is mismanagement of public assets and the only rationale would be to save developers money which will cost future taxpayers for generations to come. Not to mention much of this land is prime agricultural land which should be protected given the world insecurities in food. A more reasonable approach would be to provide incentatives to build on brown fields/lands and redevelop parts of Cities that could use an infusion of new development - in many of these cases core infrastructure exists or requires reasonable upgrades. Greenbelt development requires all new infrastructure and is poor planning from an Asset Management perspective. In an informal poll taken at the last election at our workplace, we found 50% voted for PCs and 50% for the Green - the next election will be a marked decrease, besides the big developers, who will vote PC. Please reconsider and cancel this bill and do the right thing by the people that elected the government.
