I would like to register my dismay at the elimination of the cap and trade policy by the current government. I believe that climate change is the biggest challenge humanity faces, now and unfortunately for our grandchildren, in the future. In my view it's essential to begin to reduce emissions now, to help Ontarians save energy and create jobs in the new clean economy. To do this we must put a price on pollution and return revenues to Ontarians so they can lower their carbon footprint. Our provincial government must create legally binding emissions targets in line with our obligations to the Paris Climate Agreement. It's high time this province ended subsidies to fossil fuel companies and diverted these funds instead to clean energy solutions.

I was appalled to learn that on September 25 when the Environmental Commissioner of Ontario made her 2018 report on greenhouse gas emissions in Ontario, not one Conservative MPP was present in the House to hear her. Abandoning the Green Energy Act, dismantling contracts with green energy providers, and eliminating emissions control on vehicles speaks of a government more interested in destroying their predecessors' legislative record than charting a positive course of its own.
