I do not support Bill 23- or taking any land from the greenbelts period.
As a CPMHN (c) RN and a SADV RN I work with the homeless community as a substantial portion of my job. I also volunteer with many nursing environmental projects, as well as community environmental projects.

Bill 23 in its current form is taking land from the green belt and will not assist with the primary housing problem in the province. In its current form it will only serve to create homes that middle-upper income Ontarians will move into or serve as secondary residents.
If you consult further with any housing advocates or read the countless analysis's it will quickly become clear why.

This Bill is NOT truly helping the housing situation and my opinion is that it should be repealed. If the Otnario government has any interest in helping the housing situation there is already suitable land in countless areas- and PR campaigns should be undertaken to promote vertical instead of horizontal sprawl, as well as try to make multi-dwelling home s(ie: townhouses, semi-detachments, apartments) look more appealing.

The government should instead by investing in more harm reduction initiatives, gender-based violence initiatives, emergency shelters, transitional homes (WITHIN CITY LIMITS AS THESE FOLKS REQUIRE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION FOR BASIC NEEDS TO BE MET), stronger outpatient mental health support programs (the waitlists are currently ridiculous in this province), invest in more funding for immigrant communities, and further invest into initiatives that support the TRC report and assist homeless indigenous folks, place stronger legislation in place for rent control, and more investment in public transportation in key municipalities.

If you consult the WHO and health care professionals surrounding the housing issues in our province you will further find out that unhealthy environments cause 25% of global deaths per year with the number expected to rise- ie: due to exacerbating respiratory conditions with poor air quality, more flooding and erosion, cancers from increased carcinogen exposures.

Please repeal bill 23. It will only serve to hurt Ontarians lives and health in the future. Please spend more time consulting on how to properly address the housing problem in a meaningful way.
