I have been a Conservative voter all my life but Bill 23 will end my support. The protected Greenbelt should not be paved over for housing. The environmental lands it encompasses are important for their biodiversity and flood absorption properties. The agricultural lands it encompasses are some of Ontarios best, most fertile land. We can’t eat concrete. Has the pandemic taught nothing? We need safe, local supply chains that we control, especially when it comes to our food source.
And to read that major Conservative donors were able to purchase large swaths of the Greenbelt in advance and stand to profit immensely is just the nail in your coffin. How immoral and unjust!
Ontario, no, actually Canada and the world need to stop the destruction of green places. We can’t control what happens in someone else’s back yard but we certainly can control our own. Say a huge NO to Bill 23!
