Ford and Clark, YOU LIED TO US. You squeezed in another term based on lies about NEVER touching the Greenbelt, and here you are going back on your word. The Greenbelt, wetlands, environmentally protected lands, wildlife and Oak Ridges Moraine are not yours to touch!!! It belongs to the people of Ontario. Who do you think you are?
And to appease your developer friends, you introduced Bill 23 on Oct. 25th, the day after the municipal election when people would be focused elsewhere and newly elected Councils not yet sworn in to take a position on this legislation. You’ve brought in Super Powers for Mayors to override municipal planning decisions. You’ve prevented residents and community groups from appealing municipal planning proposals and removed requirements of Municipalities to hold public meetings on development in their community. You’ve stripped away powers of Conservation Authorities who deal with development on wetlands to ensure they’re being protected. You use MZO’s as your new tool to override any objections to fast track what you want. You’ve reduced development charges on residential buildings which will severally reduce municipal revenue. You continue to lie about the need to encroach on the Greenbelt lands when there is so much land available that is waiting to be developed. Developers are sitting on it as they can’t sell enough units to get a building permit to build housing due to the current economy.
Ford and Clark, you need to stop the rape and pillage of our Greenbelt as it is not yours to take away from us. We have the power to stop you and you’re hearing the millions of voices doing exactly that.
