Firstly, I thank you very much for allowing public consultation on this bill. As a mother and grandmother, I want to ensure that they do not suffer because we didn't care enough to leave a livable environment for them. To that end I beg you to reconsider cancelling the cap and trade system without putting something equally effective in its place.
Ontario needs a real climate change plan to reduce emissions, help people save energy and create jobs in the $26 trillion clean economy of the future. We need to support a safer and viable future by making polluters pay for their emissions and returning the revenues to the pockets of Ontarians so they can lower their carbon footprint. As Canada's largest province, Ontario needs to show leadership by having legally binding emissions targets in line with our country's obligations to the Paris Climate Agreement.
I dream of an Ontario which is largely powered by clean energy by 2050. To that end, as a minimum, we need to end provincial subsidies and handouts for fossil fuel companies and redirect this money to clean energy solutions.
Yours truly...a grandmother.
