I wholeheartedly disagree…

I wholeheartedly disagree with the decision to allow development in the Greenbelt; protecting environmentally sensitive land is of critical importance to future generations of Ontarians. Although the province needs more housing for an increasing population we can achieve that goal by rezoning and densifying existing neighborhoods, and by developing land outside of the Greenbelt.

If the government does not respect the preservation of protected land it could lead to increased land speculation around the GTA and the loss of critical farmlands we use to feed Ontario. Environmental protections will become meaningless if they can be overturned at the stroke of a pen - and against the wishes of the majority of Ontarians. This is to say nothing of the optics of Conservative party donors buying up land in the months leading up to the announcement. I simply cannot believe that this is a coincidence and it is outrageous to facilitate the destruction of the Greenbelt to line the pockets of party donors.

During the election Doug Ford promised that he would not touch the Greenbelt; he was elected by a province who believed him. I respectfully ask that the government of Ontario honour that commitment. The Greenbelt be preserved, as is.
