We do not need the greenbelt…

We do not need the greenbelt lands to meet the provincial housing targets.
Greenbelt lands should be strictly hands off, to protect the lands, the connections for wildlife and to preserve our green resources for future generations.

The Province's own report from the Housing task force says we DON'T need the greenbelt lands to meet the housing targets.
Pg 10 of the "Report of the Ontario Housing Affordability Task Force" dated Feb 8, 2022. includes the following (under the heading Making land available to build):

"The Greater Toronto Area is bordered on one side by Lake Ontario and on the other by the
protected Greenbelt. Similarly, the Ottawa River and another Greenbelt constrain land supply
in Ottawa, the province’s second-largest city.

But a shortage of land isn’t the cause of the problem.
Land is available, both inside the existing built-up areas
and on undeveloped land outside greenbelts.

We need to make better use of land."

We need to increase density in the existing developed land, and on the land that's already designated. We need to increase density along transit corridors, and roads. We need to make better use of land.

The planet is under threat from climate change, and we need to protect the greenbelt, our wetlands and the conservation authority. Please take your hands off the greenbelt. For example, housing along rivers such as Duffins creek area in the east end doesn't make sense in these times of climate change. Protect the natural areas, and species that live along the waters and wetlands.

You promised to not touch the greenbelt. Please keep your word.
