I think the Government…

I think the Government should reconsider the proposed changes as the current developments that have occurred have not supported the housing crisis and aren’t addressing the underlying problems of supply and cost. Removing the protected lands is something that can’t be undone once it’s developed and if it is done poorly then what was this change for.

The city continues to grow and become more dense with less availability of houses that growing families are in search of. More townhomes and jammed streets of planned developments with little access to parks and schools will only lead to poor services and overcrowding and with it the eventual issues of crime and issues at municipal level of services that we’ve seen. I don’t like seeing the changes that have occurred in Pickering/Ajax and with poor services and increasing crime.

The concern I have is also linked to the watershed as I have seen in previous homes the impact on developments upstream have caused on those downstream. Flooding will be an issue if the many rivers and fields are impacted by the spring run off.

If we’re going to put these people somewhere can we look at the lands already available and focus on what types of buildings that are offered and make it more competitive for developers by granting preference to those that will offer up mixed plans. That offer up decently sized lots for full homes, some townhomes and residential mixed buildings with some units planned for lower income units and not just condos for investment properties. Please include plans for schools and parks/transit.

Do not make this generations version of the Jungle or Riverdale so developers can shove as many people into the smallest sized box built as cheaply as possible to cash in.

And hurry up and build the Pickering Airport as once people build everything up and an airport shows up they’ll be pretty angry. They’re going to need jobs and so far everyone is heading to the city. Need for the economy to divest from the core and move out. Why aren’t we looking to bolster communities in Kingston/London/Barrie with improvements in their area so maybe larger firms will be interested just like Waterloo drove development in the 2000’s. Also need a high speed rail line between Ottawa/Montréal and Toronto. ;)
