Repealing the CCMLEA just to replace it with something else is huge waste of taxpayers money. Cap and Trade is an effective way of reducing carbon emissions by reducing the use of fossil fuels and benefits Ontario by providing funds for upgrading homes, businesses and public buildings for greater efficiency. The plan would actually save people money over time, not increase costs. The $100 million removed from school repairs is an example of the short-sightedness of the government's actions. At a time when our schools need billions of dollars in repairs to make them safe spaces for students we should be putting more money into schools not less. Cap and Trade would have allowed us to do that.
The money collected through Cap and Trade would have been put back into our economy, increasing employment opportunities, supporting small business and making life better for Ontarians. Ontario needs to support companies that are creating the technologies that will make our lives more environmentally sustainable in the future. If we don't, these jobs will go to other parts of the world.
Please reconsider the misguided decision to cancel Cap and Trade. It appears that you are cancelling it purely for political reasons, and that's going to hurt Ontario in the long run.
