I do not think that Doug Ford should be developing the GreenBelt. This is a terrible idea and it will be detrimental to so many wildlife species that rely on this area for habitat. In addition to this, people have been turning to nature during the pandemic. Our parks and greenspace has been already overrun with people as we need places to go to get out of the city. To remove or develop some of this land, especially in areas that are already so heavily populated would be a mistake. Nature preservation have been linked to many health benefits for people. In addition, all of the co2 sequestration that these environments provide are integral to the reduction of the harmful effects of climate change, as well as providing clean air for people to breathe. Doug Ford needs to remove this plan and stop putting money first and think about how to move Ontario towards a sustainable future and recognize the value this protected area holds for Ontarians.
