Planning Act and DC Act – Schedule 3

It is well known that having access to greenspace is essential in reducing stress, promoting physical activity, increasing social interaction and improving mental health. The incredible strains on Ontario’s health system make this need all the more obvious. Parks also provide a collective health benefit, as trees reduce smog and pollution, provide shade from the sun while cooling off the environment and reducing the effect of heat islands in cities while contributing substantially to attractive and liveable communities. Parks are already in short supply, as intensification eats up more greenspace.

It is essential to keep the parkland dedication rate at 1 hectare per 300 units.
