Hello - Original training qualifications for Building Inspectors was just main aspects to achieve Ministry of Housing Certificates for Legal, the House, Part 9 Technical, Part 3 Large Buildings and Part 3 Complex Buildings.
Many Inspectors in larger municipalities however had trouble with those courses and exams because they were specialists in Mechanical, Fire safety, Structural, etc. Hence those courses and exams were created to address the need for those specialists.
Bill 124 mandated these credentials in 2006 but somehow the specialist programs became mandatory for all, which was not how this was before, nor was that the interpretation offered as to how this was to be implemented; which was that these tests were just to accommodate specialists.
We hear that MMAH are considering reverting to the original intent where having the general exams would automatically qualify us under the specialist courses. As it is now wherein passing Complex Buildings meaning you have Large Buildings automatically.
But is this proposed change not going to deliver on the original intent and streamlining to have Large Buildings exams qualify us for say, Structural as well??
