The assertion that the revised regulation of development would offer adequate protection from natural hazards in Ontario rests on the dubious premise that neither the frequency nor the severity of such natural hazards will increase as a result of the proposed updates. There is already sufficient land available to develop the amount of housing required to meet projected population growth. The reduction in regulations will compromise conservation lands in ways that will unnecessarily jeopardize not only the housing that currently exists, but also the new housing that will be built where wetlands and ground water systems have been eliminated or disrupted. The current Government of Ontario is pushing to sacrifice the environmental well-being of our province for the financial gain of a small number of developers.
