Many years ago Mental Health Hospitals existed. Where did they go? Where did the people living in them go? How are we helping Canadians with mental health? Many people are forced into unbearable living situations, just to survive. How is it that newcomers to Canada are living better and supported upon arrival, but our sick and unhealthy are dying on the streets?
Given the costs involved for housing in jail, in a hospital, in a shelter, at a food bank, in a nursing home, we can afford and must provide a basic living for the unfortunate. It would be an easier plan than welfare. A basic $2,000 monthly would afford the needed funding. Then programs towards trying to obtain a grade 12 education, or equivalency with basic skills training is the ONLY way to help and include "ALL Canadians". We know that the drug OxyContin was a huge world tragedy. WE could also watch prescriptions being administered by doctors for all people on the program. Provide daycare at $10 day. It would be a way to encourage a better life while slowly opening doors for the unfortunate. It will pay for itself in many ways. We might consider tiny homes villages to start these people as home owners too. Government money purchasing government housing is a win.
PLEASE stop looking the wrong direction and start HELPING Canadians. There is NO other way out.
