I and my family are rural residents of Strathroy-Caradoc. We have concerns with the proposed hauled sewage disposal site at 6953 Falconbridge Drive for several reasons.
Environmental impacts on watershed and ecosystem with pathogens from human waste is a significant concern. The water table in this area is known to be high. After the large rain we had early in April, a drive by of this property showed significant standing water, with trucks and trailers sitting in water. It has been identified that climate change is a concern for future rising water levels and flooding. What prevention strategies exist that will prevent runoff of this waste into the waterways to be carried downstream? Tiling will only direct draining water and seeping septage in the same way.
Related, the potential human health impacts of openly spreading untreated waste warrant significant consideration from the perspective of risk to ground water I.e. well drinking water.
This is not a remote area. There are several homes within a relatively short distance of this property. Families and homeowners would be affected by odour on a near ongoing basis, impacting their ability and right to enjoy their homes and outdoor areas of their property.
Lastly, treatment facilities for dumping of septage exist. I do not wish the proponent any ill will, however in 2023, the use of open spreading anywhere where residential homes, waterways and fragile ecosystems have high risk of being affected is not a reasonable solution.
