Being a landowner in an unorganized township in northern Ontario I am in full support of this proposed change to the building code. To many people have taken advantage of residency in the unincorporated areas of the province to build whatever and wherever they want to below code standards. Unfortunately this process is enhanced by the lack of official plans and zoning requirements in the majority of these regions. Requiring a building to conform to the code is an important piece of the puzzle. When a building permit is being issued it should be known what type of structure is permitted. ie ,single family residential ,commercial, etc. Without zoning this is impossible to enforce. The planning and zoning can be achieved through the local MMAH appointed planning boards. Several of these boards work in partnership with incorporated municipalities that have official plans and zoning. To effectively move forward I believe there should be dialogue with all impacted agencies. To limit the proposed changes to building inspections only is a bandage solution and is not going to fully resolve the growing issues in the Unincorporated Territories in Ontario.
