I think that putting a price on pollution, making polluters pay and returning the revenues to Ontarians to help with reducing our carbon footprint was a good strategy for addressing carbon emissions at the provincial level. I regret that the new government is dismantling this strategy. It seems regressive, not progressive.
I will be looking for a climate change plan that is effective at reducing emissions, helps households and businesses save energy, and creates job in the clean economy. Legally binding targets that are in line with our obligations under the Paris Climate Agreement are very important .Ending subsidies for fossil fuel industry and directing this money to support clean energy solutions is also important.
Please consider your legacy to the people of Ontario. Will we be mired in dependence and continually increasing our fossil fuel consumption over the course of this governement's term? Or will be working constructively towards less dependence on fossil fuels? When catastrophic weather events occur, Ontarians will be very angry if we perceive that government has walked away from its leadership on addressing climate change.
