I am truly disappointed that…

I am truly disappointed that the Cap and Trade System that took several years to put in place to help encourage the reduction of greenhouse gasses has been stopped. The money from Cap and Trade (which is NOT A TAX), was to be put purposely towards greener forms of energy and to increase the price of carbon - yes, on gasoline too. In the 70s when there was an embargo on oil from the middle-east and gas was expensive, people bought smaller vehicles. Price does encourage people to change their behaviours and I really believe that Cap and Trade was going to play a big part of the successes of Ontario and Canada in their pledge to meet our Paris Agreement goals. I was in tears when Cap and Trade was pulled as it seemed like the only hope our country had at making a difference. It was also disappointing to know that this program was being removed without ANY other form of GHG mitigation program in place. Dianne Saxe has it right - this government removed something that was working for no other reason than it was part of a political party’s platform. Congratulations on fulfilling one of your platform goals and for destroying our environmental successes in Ontario. I am ashamed and embarrassed to live here. :(
