I firmly oppose the government’s proposal to end Ontario’s cap-and-trade system and firmly oppose Bill 4. My reasoning for opposing this bill is that, and I cannot believe I have to tell adults this, climate change is real, and we are suffering as a planet and as humans TODAY. The effects of climate change are being felt and will continue to be felt as I grow up in Ontario. The current carbon pricing system in Ontario is an effective way of reducing emmissions, and if a carbon tax is Mr. Ford’s big issue, then it is an effective way to not have a carbon tax imposed in Ontario (though a carbon tax would be even more effective in reducing carbon emmissions). Climate change is by far the most important and critical issue politically, economically, and socially; and our government must be a global leader in combatting the rising global temperatures and ensuring that carbon emmissions begin to DROP rather than RISE.
I firmly oppose bill 4 and strongly support Ontario’s cap-and-trade system. I absolutely will not support any government that rejects climate change, and, even worse, if they don’t reject climate change; a government that blatantly dismisses it and will not act on it responsibly.
