Re. Rethink Scrapping Cap & Trade Climate Action
Dear Mr. Ford:
This first priority of your new provincial government to scrap the cap and trade program that puts a price on climate pollution is taking us back to the past “with a tax free Ontario for polluters”. This is the opposite of what climate scientists, economists and most countries of the world say is needed to take strong action to reverse the rising trends of dangerous climate change. Without serious climate action how can our younger and future generations have a chance for a decent future. Our federal government is encouraging all provinces to price Carbon because as the independent Canadian Ecofiscal Commission’s economists say it’s the most efficient and least costly way to encourage business and personal changes to successfully reduce climate pollution. It can be also be adjusted to return most of the funds raised to taxpayers.
The Bear Creek Green Team wants the new government to give careful thought to continue giving climate action the priority that’s needed by keeping Ontario’s cap and trade program working and not waste millions fighting the federal carbon price. Your climate action should also include continuing the transition to green energy so we can all benefit economically as well as environmentally.
Yours truly,
Bear Creek Secondary School – Green Team,
