As a citizen of melrose, this proposal is extremely concerning. The Thought that a company will be able to remove water from the earth 24 hours a day, 365 days a year is troubling. The environmental ramifications of this project could be vast. Tyendinaga is a rural area with farmland surrounding the location proposed.
The Citizens of Melrose rely heavily on well water and the water table in order to water crops, livestock and use everyday water for our households. By removing water from the earth at such a rapid and prolonged rate is bound to have an effect the ability to do this.
The surrounding area not only has farmland but is also the host to a variety of wildlife who relay on the streams and other water in the area. By changing the landscape and removing water, this wildlife will have no choice but to search elsewhere.
We worry that the environmental ramifications of this project will have long-lasting effects on the farmland, the wildlife and the everyday citizens who rely on the stable water system.
