I am in support of Cap & Trade or a similar mechanism (even a carbon tax) by which environmental externalities can be incorporated via a market mechanism. I believe that removing such a mechanism is near-sighted and would be detrimental for future generations. We need to emphasize sustainability even if it comes at a cost to our comfort. Furthermore, my impression from my colleagues in the environmental sector who work with industry have indicated that industry is in favour of a market mechanism whereby the funds raised are reinvested into upgrades to improve efficiency, which in turn benefits companies both environmentally and in the efficiency of their systems themselves (therefore saving costs on energy etc.)

Together, I want to urge the government NOT to move forward with this "Bill 4, Cap and Trade Cancellation Act, 2018".
