The Township of Wilmot has considered the matter of Waterloo Region OPA6 and the Ministers previous modification and approval of same.
The Township of Wilmot Council is of the opinion that Waterloo Region OPA6 does not meet the needs of its growing community and is recommending sufficient land be provided for both community area and employment area to ensure that the Township of Wilmot can grow as a complete community.
The Township of Wilmot is well situated to provide both housing and employment to help achieve the Provincial goal of building 1.5million new homes.
In addition to homes we believe it is important to ensure that employment opportunities are also provided in locations that maximize existing infrastructure wherever possible and in locations that result in complete communities.
We appreciate the opportunity to advise the Minister and the Province on what we see as the best plan for the success of the Township, the Region and the Province.
Supporting documentation in the form of a letter from Mayor Salonen and a comprehensive staff report are attached. The report and recommendation was endorsed by a majority of Council to add emphasis that this plan represents the official position of the Township of Wilmot.
