While cremation is a respectful way to dispose of both human and non human animal remains, please bear in mind the environmental impacts of cremation. Please consider allowing more environmentally friendly forms of cremation, including chemical cremations already used for humans. These methods don’t produce air emissions nor much effluents.
The laws indicate that rodents and other scavengers must be kept away. Please mandate that no poisons or other lethal means be used to protect the remains from scavengers. Cremation does reduce the attraction of predators, but please also allow safe to consume animals (those who die naturally, and meat offcuts) to be “air buried”, that is, allowing scavengers to consume the animals to complete the carbon cycle.
Factory farms and other animal agriculture already have huge environmental problems. The animals often die from illnesses and/or have been treated with antibiotics, vaccines, and other medications. These animal’s remains should NOT be used as fertilizer.
Please bear in mind that animals at a farm sanctuary who have been euthanized will be chemically euthanized, as they are companion animals. These anaesthetics have environmental impacts that need to be taken into consideration. The same applies to deceased animals who have had medication to try to treat their illnesses. They may have received pet medication and their remains should be managed as pet remains.
