As a long time resident of Dresden I'd like to voice my concerns over the proposed amendment/change in environmental zoning submitted by York 1. I feel very strongly that the re-opening of this site after many years of inactivity would not only damage forever the community and its people but the surrounding countryside. Not only do the citizens of this community face the possibility of a environmental catastrophe as a result of the Ministry of the Environment's approval but there is the distinct possibility that the town of Dresden will stop growing in population as no one will want to move to the area. In addition, property owners could realize a decrease in the value of their homes and property while facing a continued increase in taxes. Many people who wish to move out of the area won't be able to as they will in all likelihood be unable to sell.
York 1 has indicated or implied that this site is currently operating as a landfill when in fact the said property located 1km from the town of Dresden has been for the most part inactive for approximately 60 years. The regulations that initially approved this site we believe would not pass the smell test today (pardon the pun).
Rather than go on and on about the negative aspect of this proposal for the re-opening of this landfill site let me just say that I am 100% against any development by York 1. If York 1 is to be believed they are not planning to expand this site beyond what is requested in the application. We do not believe them as they have purchased an additional 150 acres adjacent to the current landfill site.
I am requesting that your agency reject their application as it does not support the dreams and aspirations of our fine community.
