We have just learned that the world will be at the tipping point where climate change becomes irreversible in only twelve years. As a province, we can show ourselves to be leaders in developing and encouraging technological solutions that will meet our obligations under the Paris Accord. Those solutions can help build and develop businesses that provide jobs locally and are able to develop or increase trade with other countries.
Not only that, the use of energy from renewable sources, improvements in building standards designed to reduce energy use and the development of transportation that does not require the use of fossil fuels reduces both costs and pollution, something we can all benefit from.
This is why:
- I want a climate change plan that reduces emissions, helps people save energy and creates jobs for Ontarians in the $26 trillion clean economy. We deserve a chance to be part of a growing market.
- I want Ontario to put a price on pollution, making sure that polluters pay for their emissions and returning the revenues to Ontarians so they can lower their carbon footprint as they choose.
- I want legally binding emissions targets in line with our obligations to the Paris Climate Agreement, and I want to know what they are and the plan which lays out how they will be met.
- I want Ontario to end subsidies and handouts for fossil fuel companies and redirect this money to clean energy solutions.
