Please exempt the Region of Waterloo from any changes proposed by the Get It Done Act, 2024-Amending the Official Plan Adjustments Act. 2023.
Our Region's Official Plan was years in the making and addresses development growth safely as it relates to our very precious fertile farmlands and water recharge systems.
Here's the critical undeniable point I wish to make.
Waterloo region has only "Aquifers" and "The Grand River" as sources for our drinking water.
Water bans are put in place every year to protect this life essential resource.
With expected Waterloo Region population growth to 900,000 by 2051, and the continued dramatic effects of climate change, I ask you; how will we have enough drinking water for our Region's citizens?
There is currently a large tract of land in Wilmot Township in the Region of Waterloo that is essential to Waterloo Region's recharging water supply. This land is currently threatened by this act and its veto of our Waterloo Region Official Plan.
My 8 young grandchildren are counting on the government of Ontario to protect our Waterloo Region water recharge systems and fertile farmland so they too can enjoy the quality of life I have had here.
Again; please exempt The Region of Waterloo from this Act.
