There is very little details on an agricultural system. Having a farm in Halton Region is extremely limiting on what we can and can not do. I have read the greenbelt and NEP vision and their goal is to expand the land plans, make amends with indigenous peoples who roamed the lands over 100 years ago and create the agricultural system approach as a way of preserving the land and the rural landscape. Rural lands in the OP have removed rural land designation and turned into agriculture when it is not. Therefore, even though the words are there pro agriculture but the actions are not there. Farm owners with barns are waiting for permission for on farm diversified uses and are met with delay and excuse after excuse. So even though your words say promote OFDU uses under this ag system approach the planners and permit department at the city are not allowing it. However, the city surely wants your funding money to build new homes and infrastructure. But how can you protect the farm owners in Halton that is over 400 in total. The ag system approach is extremely idealistic and planners and staff in charge of certain municipalities are figuring out a way to appease the province but not working for the taxpayers that they serve. I can tell you that no one wants to destroy or hurt the environment but this extreme over reach resulting in no touch except for cash crops is ridiculous and we would not be surprised if the end goal of the city is to make the entire north of the city a biosphere. Otherwise, why would they hire the ex head of the CA authority as their CEO. There is definitely a back door plan in the making here. And we are for the environment but a plan that does not include an open conversation of what the plan is and why is not part of a democracy. And since this is authoritarian in actions the city can not be trusted. Their OP that is not in compliance and sitting on the desk needs to be scrupulously inspected word for word. We have been experiencing this since at least 2018. And businesses are suffering as a result of these back door deals from the Region and now in the City.
Please ensure the rural designation remains as it has disappeared from this city’s OP that is sitting on your desk.
Yes the urban area should build the bulk of new homes and the rural area should not be intensified but the plans for extremism in the rural area is also preventing and starving the continuation and success of over 400 farm businesses.
Return all properties that were RURAL and turned into Prime Agricultural and Agriculture outside of prime. This plan that is happening behind closed doors is one step closer to Greenbelt and NEP expansion.
