As an environmental services worker in Toronto, I work to bring Toronto and Ontario closer to a more circular economy and away from a linear economy which will begin to collapse at it's current trajectory in less than 100 years. Environmental sustainability is not a nice-to-have, it is a necessity and governments have already been ignoring this fact for too long. This Bill will bring Ontario years behind other provinces and it will contribute to Canada falling behind its G7 partners in its sustainability and carbon reduction goals. To me this is, simply, ludicrous.
As a citizen of not only of Toronto, but of Canada, and the World, I believe that Canada and Ontario must be at the forefront of environmental change. I personally could care less about paying more at the pumps, more for heating, and more for "virtually every other product we buy" (Ford). I care more about Canada being a global environmental leader and I care about reversing a dangerous global warming trend that will undoubtedly lead to further natural disasters, the degradation of our ecosystems, and the loss of human life.
Ontarians should start to worry less about money in their own pockets and more about social and environmental responsibility.
