I'm writing about the proposed Bill 185, the "Cutting Red Tape to Build More Homes Act" (as a side note, the habit of governments to turn the names of legislation into political slogans undermines any hope you might have of being taken seriously).

The bill could be more aptly named, "Let Developers Have Their Way Act". I strongly oppose the changes that will allow developers: to essentially demand at any time that farmland or wetlands be used for development, and expand settlement boundaries. I'm equally opposed to the elimination of the right of third party appeals.

Planning authority should be with regional municipal governments, changes to municipal boundaries should not be permitted outside of regular municipal comprehensive review periods, legislation to limit the right of third party appeals should be rescinded.

And while you're at it, the Attorney General should disclose all communications with municipalities and developers requesting changes to third party appeal rights.
