The MECP suggestion that we will save nominally at the pump concerns me when coupled with economics of consumption - in fact, one can calculate that a savings of $0.045/L saving $80 per household per year translates to money spent driving additional Kms. This would mean the combustion of 1,778 L extra per household per year. Data from Natural Resources Canada show that gasoline engines produce 2.3 Kg of CO2 for every liter of gasoline consumed. Under this government's calculation, they would also predict that this results in an additional 4,088 Kg of CO2 emitted per househould per year. The 2016 Canadian Census counted 5,169,170 households in Ontario. This would result in an additional 21,136,161.77 Kg of CO2 emitted by the province per year. Please see my calculations below;

1,778L * 2.3 Kg of CO2 per L = 4,088 Kg CO2
4,088 Kg of CO2 emissions per household * 5,169,170 households in Ontario = 21,136,161.77 Kg of CO2

I am happy your government is taking a critical look into the accounting practices of the previous provincial government, but I hope that the current government accurately reports carbon emissions and the health impacts associated with climate change and air pollution with integrity. I would advise that this government a) accounts for these outcomes and b) accounts for them with integrity as to not have MECP records audited in the next Provincial election cycle.
