I am extremely concerned with many of the proposed changes to the Provincial Planning Statement. These changes won’t result in more homes being built but instead will likely reduce density, make transit and active transportation more challenging, result in much greater loss of valuable farmland and create more urban sprawl.
The following are my primary concerns and recommendations:
1. The elimination of the intensification targets is problematic and needs to be removed. Existing intensification targets should be maintained or increased and made mandatory - not optional,
2. Similarly, changes to remove or make greenfield density targets optional is very concerning and need to be removed. Existing greenfield density targets should be maintained or increased for all parts of Ontario,
3. Allowing two additional residences on every farm, despite last year’s citizens' denunciation of the four severances per farm, needs to be completely removed.
4. The changes to permit new subdivision developments in rural areas is extremely troubling and needs to be eliminated,
5. Encouraging development on septic systems and water systems have proven problematic in the past and needs to be eliminated from the proposed PPS changes,
6. The Agricultural System and the Natural Heritage System concepts and mapping need to be restored for the Greater Golden Horseshoe.
I feel it is imperative that changes be made in these areas!
