I am against this proposal to change to a mixed use community. This land has been deemed as employment land. What disturbs me is that I had to find out about this through the community and our rate payers association. Where are the the counsellor that we have voted in? Why are they not looking after the interests of the community?
There are many reason why I do not agree with this proposal and I will outline some below:
The area in question has a a ramp to access the 400 south. Traffic has always been an issue in Vaughan. Why would you introduce a high density residential development in an area that already has existing traffic congestion. This is unacceptable.
Also, it is my understanding the region of York opposes the proposal. By placing high density residential units within a designated employment zone creates an isolated community. If you do this the area lacks essential residential amenities such as schools etc. this will impact the quality of life for future residents.
By establishing a high density residential area in an employment zone can destabilize existing businesses. There could’ve noise complaints or operational restrictions, leading to potential conflicts between residential and employment uses. This will have an impact on the long term viability of surrounding businesses.
I could go on and on listing many more reason why, but what I am really angered at our Representatives for not being upfront and getting the community together to discuss. Is this proposal self serving for the Mayor and the Counsellors? The residents of Vaughan have worked very hard throughout their life and take pride in their homes. There are enough condos in Vaughan and should not be placed within residential areas. The average size home in Vaughan is over 2000 sq ft. Who do you expect to buy these 1 bedroom suite condos? We do not want to see vacant condos as families grow.
If it wasn’t for a neighbour that mentioned there was a sign strategically placed behind a tree on Langstaff, I wouldn’t know about this proposal. And if it wasn’t for the rate payer association that has brought it to the attention of our community, items like this are approved (not because the community did not object) but rather we are not made aware of it and have the time to make an informed decisions. Many of my neighbours are elderly and our not t Chan silly savvy. I am ashamed right now being a residentl in Vaughan because I feel the people that have been voted in to protect my interests are not doing their job and instead making decisions to serve the interests of developers. Shame on you! I expect Doug Ford to do something about this and stop this!
