Greenfield Global Inc. - Environmental Compliance Approval (air)

This proposal is for an amendment to the Limited Operational Flexibility for an Environmental Compliance Approval (air & noise) No. 9225-BUKJNN for Greenfield Global Inc., a fuel grade and industrial ethanol production facility, located in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, Ontario.

The emission sources from the manufacturing and associated processes that discharge to the air include grain receiving, handling, and milling; mash cooking; fermentation; distillation and dehydration; liquids and solids separation; evaporation; corn oil extraction; distillers grains recovery; product storage and transportation; as well as any other equipment and ancillary and support processes and activities at the site. The amendment includes lowering the operating temperature of the existing thermal oxidizer. Emissions to the air from this facility include:

• benzene
• ethanol
• nitrogen oxides
• particulate matter
• odour, and
• noise

The Environmental Compliance Approval with Limited Operational Flexibility (air & noise), when issued, permits modifications to the facility subject to limits on operational flexibility that include a production limit for the facility to be specified on the Environmental Compliance Approval with Limited Operational Flexibility (air & noise). The limited operational flexibility conditions have an expiry date. The company will be required to make an application for amendment at that time to renew these conditions.
