The purpose of the proposed plan is to achieve consistency with provincial policy and legislation, and to establish goals, objectives, and local policies to manage and direct physical (land use) change in the township.

On October 9, 2026, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing received a complete application from the Township of Moonbeam for approval of a new official plan, adopted by Council through By-law No 33-26 on September 3, 2026.
The new official plan, if approved, will replace the existing plan, which came into effect in 2016. The new plan will guide growth and physical (land use) change across the Township of Moonbeam for a 25-year planning horizon, while incorporating community-driven priorities and provincial objectives.
The ministry will review adopted official plan for consistency with the Provincial Planning Statement, 2024, conformity with the Growth Plan for Northern Ontario, 2011, and compliance with the Planning Act. All feedback received will be considered before presenting any potential modifications to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing for a decision in accordance with section 17 of the Planning Act.
As set out in subsections 17 (36.5) and (38.1) of the Planning Act, the decision of the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing regarding an official plan adopted in accordance with section 17 is final and not subject to appeal.
