This proposal is for the renewal of the Limited Operational Flexibility for the Environmental Compliance Approval (air & noise) No. 1229-AJSRKD for Vale Canada Limited Vale Canada Limitee, an underground mine extracting nickel and copper ores from a sulphide ore zone located in City of Greater Sudbury, Ontario.
The emission sources from the associated processes that discharge to the air include hoisting ore and waste rock from underground work areas, backfilling, materials handling and stockpiling, as well as underground ventilation and maintenance welding operations.
Emissions to the air from this facility include:
- particulate matter
- nickel
- nitrogen oxides (NOx)
- sulfur dioxide (SO2)
- ferric oxide, and
- cobalt
The Environmental Compliance Approval with Limited Operational Flexibility (air and noise), permits modifications to the facility subject to limits on operational flexibility that include a production limit for the facility to be specified on the Environmental Compliance Approval with Limited Operational Flexibility (air and noise). The Limited Operational Flexibility conditions have an expiry date. The company will be required to make an application for amendment at that time to renew these conditions.
